The San Diego Center for Systems Biology

Under the umbrella of Systems Biology the biological and biomedical sciences are being revolutionized by unprecedented experimental tools that enable genome-wide, high throughput dynamic measurements and perturbations, and the engineering of genetic circuits, cells and tissues.  Harnessing their full potential requires bioinformatic and computational modeling approaches – as such Systems Biology catalyzes the inevitable transition of Biology to a math-based, model-driven science. SDCSB aims to foster Systems Biology by bringing together scientist across disciplines and institutions to promote collaborative research and training, and the exchange of ideas and resources around Systems Biology.  Founded in 2005 as the San Diego Consortium for Systems Biology, it became one of the National Centers for Systems Biology funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) in 2010.  SDCSB comprises activities in (i) scientific research, (ii) scientific outreach, and (iii) educational outreach.
